Whistleblower Protection

Manor Court is committed to creating a safe, transparent and accountable environment where people feel supported to speak up about suspected wrongdoing.
 

Anyone may raise a whistleblower concern about a suspected breach of aged care law. This includes residents, families, carers, supporters, advocates, employees, volunteers, contractors, suppliers, Board members and other people connected with Manor Court.
 

What can be reported?

A whistleblower disclosure may relate to suspected:

• illegal, improper or unethical conduct

• fraud, theft, bribery or financial irregularities

• violence, abuse or threats to safety

• breaches of aged care or other legal requirements

• misconduct affecting residents, workers or Manor Court

• retaliation against someone who has raised or may raise a concern.
   

A person does not need to prove that wrongdoing has occurred, but they should have reasonable grounds for their concern. A disclosure may still be protected if it is later found to be incorrect.
 

Your protection

Whistleblower disclosures may be made confidentially or anonymously.
 

Manor Court will take reasonable steps to:

• protect the identity of the person making the disclosure

• keep information secure and confidential

• protect the person from punishment, unfair treatment, threats, victimisation or other detrimental conduct

• assess and respond to the disclosure appropriately and promptly

• provide support throughout the process

• keep the person informed of progress and outcomes where appropriate.
   

Anonymous disclosures will be taken seriously. Remaining anonymous may, however, limit Manor Court’s ability to seek further information or investigate the matter fully.
 

Make a disclosure

You can make a disclosure to Manor Court’s Whistleblower Protection Officer:

If the concern involves the Whistleblower Protection Officer, it may be reported to the Chair of Manor Court’s Governing Board.

A disclosure may also be made to an appropriate external recipient, including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, an independent aged care advocate or, for serious illegal conduct, the police.
